Between Kalundborg on Zealand and Hou in Jutland lies Samsø, and the island is definitely not just a stop between two ferry crossings. It is a veritable natural gem with two signposted cycle routes, both of which are really nice. From Dyret, 51 meters above sea level, you have a fine view of the southern part of the island. If you want to go all the way to the north tip, you have to park your bike.

The ferry from Sælvig on Samsø docks in Hou, where you go swimming from a good sandy beach. Between Virring and Stilling lies the lush and protected area Pilbrodalen, a 25-50 meter deep Ice Age landscape. If you like sailing, you can take a trip out on Skanderborg Lake with M/S Dagmar. Around the railway town of Ry you'll find two very fine beaches, Knudhule and Sønder Ege.

The terrain is hilly, and this means that you have the possibility of some absolutely fantastic views. Sukkertoppen at Mossø is 108 meters high, and Himmelbjerget at Gammel Rye no less than 147 meters. The dunes at Vrads Sande are the result of many years of sand drift, and the natural area around Søby was partly created by the excavation of lignite during the occupation.
